Organic Kindergarten on the Way
Thanks to the amazing parents here at the Co-op for getting our Organic Edible Kindergarten started. The Co-op Kindergarten (translates to Children’s Garden in German), a dream of the owners of the Co-op, has been made a reality. The plot has been staked and laid. The ground has been tilled. All that is left now is to get some compost soil from our parents and to start planting! The idea behind the garden is to teach our kids that their food comes from somewhere and not just the grocery store or freezer isle at the market. We want them to experience the entire process from planting to eating. We intend on having various seasonal fruits, veggies, and ornamentals in various stages of growth. In order to engage the children, we will use sprouts and seeds. That way they can see the fruits of their labor, but also see the differences in the time it takes to grow. So our Co-op kids from ages a year to 5 will participate along with our parents and families by weeding, watering, singing to, and whatever else it takes to make our garden grow.
